Biomimicry and Business in the Near Future

January 7, 2022

The genius of nature in its core is the omnipotent director of the planet Earth, however, we humans sometimes deviate from nature’s rules. Biomimicry, as a scientific method and epistemology of emulating the natural systems to solve social and practical problems, plays a crucial role in order to enmesh intricate questions in the nature gaze.

The processes that nature does are palpable. All are tangible around us. Maybe that's why a long walk in Central Park can be the best therapy for writers’ obstruction or the best way to relax after an anxious situation. Nature is steadfast and unswerving; created for optimization, nature is highly connected and able to heal up itself.

Such qualities can all be traced through biomimetics. We are able to examine inherent models and find out what mechanism, relationships and ingredients, to some degree, make a steady cycle of life.

The translation of these experiments, observations, and traces has become one of the most attractive subfields of bazaar or in the business mainstream as we as a methodology for technology in industries, internet, agriculture, architecture and urban design, manufacturing, HR management, transportation and municipal world, healthcare, materials, and robotics etc., nowadays. For instance, biomimetic designs, along with aesthetic principles, have changed product design today to optimize for emotional interaction.

In this article, I will review the most important changes thanks to the biomimetic developments, which are mostly related to the field of human resources, the world of organizational work and business.

Occupational hierarchy and future of work

Simply speaking, biomimicry can avoid a great waste of money and time. As a matter of fact, biomimetic design leads many businesses to patch up bundles of creative economical initiations.

Salaries and benefits usually are about 90% of an office operating costs, which is over than rental costs up to 9% and energy costs, approximately up to 1%. Hence, factors affecting human resources have the potential to have an ample impact on small businesses’ costs. Absenteeism, engagement at work and replacing are indicators affect productivity; it imposes more costs in this regard. As an additional point, costs of employee turnover often range from 50% to 200% of the employee’s annual salary, and there would be an effect of occupational hierarchy on turnover rate of the staff.

Biomimicry, as an innovative approach that provides sustainable solutions for the intricate challenges of a human being. Employee turnover, for example, can be optimized by imitating the time-tested patterns and strategies of natural processes.

Biomimicry teaches us that the business world is, in any case, ultimately uncontrollable at the end of the day. We can only affect it a little. So, reduce the pressure and reduce the acceptance, and learn to be flexible.

It is blatantly self-evident that employees will never be a thoroughgoing productive species, and not all of these costs can be accused to the lack of Mother Nature. Biomimicry teaches us that this is what it is. Accepting this is as axiomatic as the accretion of coldness in winter.

 However, a ponderous body of studies shows the physical surrounding impacts the physical and mental health, social and intelligent well-being and productivity of employees. It is with these costs in mind that researchers, engineers, and architects have developed means which helps enhance employee well-being and performance.

Colonization of the work environment, i.e., having integrity, assets, and resilience, akin to termite towers, are some of the most important biomimicry solutions in this regard.

It can be a metamorphosis for businesses to show how to move from rigid, strict hierarchies towards a vibrant, flexible, authentic, “collaborative”, agile and regenerated model. Enterprises have to heal up the system by a new leadership mindset, a reorganization of relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and a “revitalizing change” that transforms them into a smart system that is freshly alive.

To sum, organizational uptake, in a view pursues things as different parts of a living and social system writes off the correct analysis of interactions in a way that optimizes processes.

Biomimetics and network security

In the world of insects, infiltration into another realm and bio parasitism is one of the areas that has been very inspiring for network security. It has affected not only network security but also hackers and cyber thieves as well.

Invaders are able to mimic host’s scent to make up a sense of intimacy that allows them to creep into the colony. Here is another example: Fungi prevent competing species from entering the soil bed by spreading a wide range of anti-infestation organisms. This is a full-fledged war that has always been going on under our feet.

Understanding the network helps organizations become smarter and more secure if looking at it like a beehive or a microorganism of micro-fungi. Moreover, by relocating and converting the deep-rooted biological systems delved into nature, A.I. and such new assets can help make up better understand the round patterns in nature and organic co-operation through natural intelligence itself. As a final part of my contention here, the innermost talent that concludes a keen sense of adaptability is the ability to maintain integrity through self-renewal.

Recruiter as a biomimicry junky

Progressive lineages have always relied on the rehabilitation and reproduction of labor. In the division of labor of an underground nest, recruiting ants organize the division of social labor.

A good recruiter has not only helped indirectly train the organization through manpower rehabilitation, but has always been well-prepared in modernizing the workforce infrastructure by having basic information about passive candidates and talent acquisition.

A biomimicry junky recruit proposes ways to recruitment strategies used in ant and bee colonies, and applies these talent acquisition models for human recruitment. It has been found to be suitable to meet the employment requirements in a great many industries such as construction and spy operations.

Overall, organizational honor, both the sectorial and the overall-collective causation that contributes to economic growth, must all follow a model that views the set of real and dependent relationships as an integrated ecosystem.

Resource management and biomimetics

Biomimicry draws out an empathetic-integrated understanding of how hyper-connected life works and that of where we stand at the end of the day. The aim is to create items, processes, and policies as a new way of life that solves our biggest stones or, in fact, our design barriers in a sustainable and glib urbanity. Below I have collected a few tips on how this approach can be reinforced by your organization:

  • Use waste as a resource;
  • Diversify and cooperate to fully use the habitat;
  • Gather and use energy efficiently;
  • Optimize rather than maximize;
  • Use materials sparingly;
  • Do not foul their nets;
  • Do not draw down resources;
  • Remain in balance with the biosphere;
  • Run on information;
  • Shop locally.

In my personal life, supporting my local community as much as possible has become a fundamental principle for me. As a neighborhood representative on the City Management Council, I always think of myself as an ant whose soldiers are waiting for him in an ant tower.

In the workplace, I learned to avoid multitasking from biomimicry. Insects do not do many things at once, and for this reason, they have created successful species life of collective living.

Optimizing meals at work as a way to reduce leftovers was another inspiration that came after studying the importance of biomimicry in our company. As a matter of fact, Americans waste about 240 pounds (108.86 kg) of food per person, apropos 20% of the nutrition that ends up on people's plates gets thrown away every single year. So, go for optimization, not maximization.

Biomimetics junky as a leader

A biomimicry junky is committed to personal and professional development, is emotionally involved, and participates in the organization he or she works for. He is willing for attending it in the development path, in accordance with the workplace cultural demarcation.

Such a character can understand people's motivations by looking at nature, for example in wildlife documentaries. In fact, his emotional intelligence analyzes the natural, including the survival instinct. As an analyst, my girlfriend always follows the patterns of nature. She is able to understand the reaction of financial markets in response to military or security threats.

It is always interesting to me that with all these technological advances we still need to re-learn and unlearn from nature. In short, biomimetics helps us move from ego-system to ecosystem.

Final words

Biomimicry helps us learn from terrestrial patterns. In a world that has always been involved in different types of political theology that have a special influence on organizations, this is a contradictory and inspiring approach. From the world of insects to niche businesses, patterns are constantly influencing each other. In fact, I mean, humans may have an impact on animal life, but nature is also talking to us in its own language, and that has changed us as intelligent beings.
